It happened in 1968: the Democrats were organizing their convention in Chicago to proclaim their presidential candidate. They had taken the US to Vietnam and youth was agitated. A group of activists decided to travel to that city for a demonstration during the Convention. The police arrested many for savagely repressed incidents, and among the arrested was a leader of the Black Panthers who wasn't even in the city at that time. The trial was held behind locked doors.
