Synopsis

The Boyita named in the title is a small, bubble-shaped trailer, that one can imagine floating amidst an agitated sea. It's still, though, in the lawn of a small-town house, a giant plant pot that doesn't lose, to the girl named Jorgelina, at least, its qualities as shelter and comfort against the upcoming adulthood. Julia Solomonoff again tells a tale of sisters, but the equivocalness of the film's title (the story begins when the Boyita has already been left behind), can also be found in the internal tension between the characters, in which Jorgelina gravitates, while her older sister, Luciana, barely appears, always on the other side of a door that the little girl would rather not cross. El último verano de la Boyita is a gentle and very precise, pre-coming-of-age tale which sometimes reminds of great hits by Argentine female filmmakers of the last few years (Martel, Carri, Puenzo), but ends up taking flight towards an altogether different place by having found, in a certain summer melancholy and a welcome lack of emphasis, its vital energy.
