Synopsis
François arrives with his girlfriend to a small town in the Valley of Jura. There, she will work as a teacher, and he, as an editor, writer and all the other roles in the town paper. One of the young journalist's unexpected tasks will be writing a piece on every movie screened on weekends in the town's theater. François will become interested, passionate, and obsessed with becoming a film critic. He has the chance, knows how to imitate the poses and other things, and will start attending private screenings. But even for someone as sibylline as François, that world will offer surprises, risks, and novelties. Un autre homme –filled with references on cinema and full of diverse mannerisms of the criticism and cultural journalism environment– is a mean, acid comedy about someone who discovers that what he wants to be isn't who he is, but also –and the central, striking, and fascinating character of Rosa will have a lot to do with this– will have to realize that what he wants to be is much more complicated than it seems. Baier makes this entire muddle flow with humor and intelligence, of the corrosive kind.
