Synopsis
As in Bujalski’s two previous movies (Funny Ha Ha and Mutual Appreciation), the story in Beeswax is minimal in terms of narration in relation to the transcendence of its characters and their actions. Usually compared to Cassavetes and Rohmer, the director centers the story on two twin sisters, Jeannie and Lauren (real-life twins with no previous experience in front of a camera), who live in Texas. One of them is wheelchair-bound since childhood, and is the owner of a used clothes store that which she shares with a friend; the other one can’t decide between jobs, and between boyfriends. A possible lawsuit triggers a series of situations that will force the sisters (and one of their ex-boyfriends) to make their way between judicial and romantic complications, affectively and sensibly describing a generation that tries to handle their own adulthood any way they can.
