Synopsis
The singing voice of the Dead Kennedys, Jello Biafra, said, in his fundamental Incredibly Strange Music Vol. 2: “You can recognize a Joe Meek record a mile away.” From fictional reconstruction (more classic Hollywood than E! True Hollywood), Telstar seeks to turn Biafra’s phrase into a dogma, and show each one of Meek’s faces. The producer that revolutionized pop music (a Molotov mix between Phil Spector and Ed Wood), the inventor of The Tornados, and the man responsible for the first British hit that invaded the US before the Beatles (the instrumental “Telstar” from the title), the amphetamine addict, the occultist, the paranoid who in the anniversary of Buddy Holly’s death committed a murder and killed himself. Rather than the stage play in which it is based,Telstar looks like Meek filming his own life: ghostly, youthful, energetic, and, above all, demolishing.
