Synopsis
To Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonanno, an event as unequivocally predictable and tedious as a business convention, can become a valuable space for penetrating, usurping, or forging identities, disguised or characterized, and exposing their views on catastrophes such as the gas leak in Bophal or the effects of hurricane Katrina, or on responsibilities not assumed. The political “project” of these Yes Men is to plan the assault on enemy spaces, an outrageous and lucid intervention as a means of action against capitalist predation, all at the speed of a gag in different stages which, as it always happens with brilliant comedies, has a terrible seriousness deep down. It’s unlikely that Andy Bichlbaum and Mike Bonnano could fulfill what the title of the film promises, because they’re not going to fix the world, but their sense of humor and the clarity of its targets (the most brilliant one: handing out a fake, perfect edition of the New York Times, with news that many would like to read) at least make it more inhabitable and human. There’s nothing more pertinent than two artists of pretense in a world of prosaic pretenders.
