Synopsis

Nothing is what it seems in French filmmaker Juliet Garcias’ debut. Everything the camera observes is conducted with such conviction that the degree of precise confidence with which the character behaves becomes suspicious. The hand of a girl who stirs a bucket filled with snails, a scoop of ice cream lying in a dirty kitchen sink, someone who kills a dog in the night, with a stone. All of them terribly concrete actions (and symbolical ones, loaded with a suspense that would make any of the original surrealists tremble with emotion) for a background that doesn’t discover itself without scattering more questions and smokescreens while it progresses. In its detachment from any kind of prefabricated structures and easy ways out, Sois sage proposes its own platform: an unstable one, where what is seen isn’t related to what was seen, but with what one always wanted to see.
