Synopsis
More than thirty years ago, the characters in Julio Cortázar’s A Manual for Manuelwere dedicated to subverting the general order by shouting in movie theaters or replacing, for example, the cigarettes from a package about to be sold in a kiosk for something (anything) that shouldn’t be there. Like them, the Yes Men have become ghosts in the machine. Their main targets are business conferences and seminars held every day around the world, and their weapon, a fake WTO website where they receive invitations to represent the organism in diverse symposiums. Chris Smith and Sarah Pierce (who attended Bafici in 2001 with their phenomenalAmerican Movie) follow them and their actions in Finland, France, Australia and the US. At the end of each conference, you won’t know if you should be more amazed by the duo’s bizarre PowerPoint presentations, which include a ridiculous techno-suit for the managers to watch their Third World employees, or by the reaction of the corporate audiences, who do not seem to realize that these people are laughing in their faces.
